It was established by the AISSAC executive board in 2015.

AISSAC’s first award, presented at the AISSAC Seminar 2015, very fittingly went to AISSAC’s Inaugural President, Prof Jan Kroeze, for service to the Southern African AIS community. As inaugural President, Jan oversaw the development and registration of the Southern African Chapter within the Association for Information Systems.

This award honors a scholar who has made significant contributions to the field of Information Systems, both in Southern Africa and worldwide, whose lifetime of service deserve special recognition and recognizes truly outstanding individuals in the field of information systems.

Furthermore, these scholars will be viewed as representatives of their national or regional information systems communities.

Lastly, this award shows recognition for how far a scholar has taken the Information systems field and dedication to furthering the various IS scholarly initiatives.
