THEME OF THE SEMINAR

2021 marks the 6th anniversary of the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by the United Nations. The 2030 Agenda is anchored by 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), 169 targets and a global indicator framework.

The SDGs are a call for action to end poverty, ensure peace and prosperity for all, and protect the planet by 2030. Africa has also committed to the SDGs and has made significant progress to date. African countries are taking steps to translate the goals into tangible outcomes to improve the lives of the our people on our continent. This is achieved by integrating SDGs into national visions and plans.

The Information Systems (IS) Discipline has a significant role to play to support the SDGs on the African continent. We need to develop a common vision of how this can be achieved. We need to work collectively and develop synergies between projects in order to promote the dissemination of knowledge to policymakers on the continent.

During the 2021 AISSAC seminar, we will provide a platform for scholars, educators, industry partners and students, to share their views, experiences and initiatives on how IS can support the SDGs in Africa.

Please join us and contribute! Together, let’s find ways of helping Africa achieve the SDGs by 2030.
